Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has officially recognized September 4, 2025, as National Blood Donation Day, recognizing the vital role blood donors play in saving lives and sustaining the health of our communities in the State of Minnesota.

The proclamation underscores the ongoing need for blood donations, which help patients facing surgeries, trauma, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and other life-threatening conditions.

“On behalf of Memorial Blood Centers, we are deeply grateful to Governor Walz for highlighting the critical importance of blood donation,” said Kathy Geist, Vice President of Memorial Blood Centers (MBC). “This recognition not only honors the generosity of our donors, but also shines a light on the constant need for blood to help patients in our hospitals and communities every day in the North Star State.”

This collective recognition comes at an especially important time. The summer months, especially around holiday weekends like Labor Day, bring a sharp drop in blood donations as residents celebrate the end of summer and prepare for the upcoming school year. Additionally, Tragedies like the recent violence at Annunciation Catholic Church, which required hundreds of units of blood products to treat victims, underscore just how critical a strong, ready blood supply is when the unexpected happens.

MBC is proud to join in celebrating this important recognition and encourages all eligible donors to schedule an appointment to give blood. Make an appointment today: Donate Blood – Memorial Blood Centers (MBC).
