University of Minnesota Students Roll Up Their Sleeves for Annual ‘We Give Blood’ Drive

University of Minnesota students showed up in a big way last week, rolling up their sleeves to support local patients and help the Golden Gophers compete for a $1 million prize through the Big Ten Conference and Abbott’s “We Give Blood” campaign, a nationwide blood donation competition among Big Ten universities.

The University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development hosted last week’s ‘We Give Blood’ drive in partnership with Memorial Blood Centers (MBC), giving students an opportunity to make a lifesaving difference right on campus.

Thanks to a strong turnout, MBC collected enough blood to potentially help save up to 66 lives. Each donation helps support patients throughout our community who depend on a readily available blood supply for surgeries, cancer treatment, trauma care and other medical needs.

The event also received some extra energy from Josh and Jace, beloved social media influencers who stopped by the drive to meet students, encourage donations, and help spread the word about the importance of giving blood.

Every donation made through the ‘We Give Blood’ initiative also moves the University of Minnesota closer to the chance to win $1 million to advance student or community health initiatives. The competition brings together Big Ten schools from across the country with a shared goal: inspiring the next generation of blood donors and helping strengthen the blood supply.

Help the Gophers compete for $1 million

Gopher fans can continue supporting Minnesota in the ‘We Give Blood’ competition through December 4. After donating blood, donors must register their donation at bigten.org/abbott and select the University of Minnesota for their donation to count toward the school’s total. After registering a donation, donors will additionally receive an email with instructions on claiming a free limited-edition “Minnesota Gives Blood” t-shirt, while supplies last.

Every donation makes a difference for patients and every registered donation can help move Minnesota closer to the $1 million prize.

Schedule a blood donation with MBC today, and register your donation for the University of Minnesota.
