The new location replaces MBC’s Bloomington donor center and will offer south Metro donors a modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment

RICHFIELD, Minn.—Memorial Blood Centers (MBC) will open its newest donor center in Richfield on March 20, 2023. A grand opening event will be held at the donor center on April 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., which will include tours of the facility, refreshments and remarks from donors and leaders of the organization. The new center, located at 6601 Lyndale Ave. South, will replace the existing Bloomington donor center at 500 W. 98th St.

“The new Richfield donor center is larger, more as it is close to highways and local businesses,” said MBC Vice President Kathy Geist. “It’s our hope that this move and the upgraded facilities will ensure our donors feel comfortable, safe, and cared for, and that we will welcome new donors to this location.”

The Richfield donor center features state-of-the-art equipment, free parking, a comfortable lounge area, an enhanced canteen experience, and new hours of operations to include Sundays starting April 16. Increased square footage allows for additional donor beds to help meet the ongoing need for blood in local hospitals.

“As our community grows and changes, so do we,” said Geist. “We aim to be excellent stewards of the gift of blood, and this move demonstrates our commitment to ensuring convenience and comfort for those who generously donate blood.”

All former Bloomington donor center staff will move to the new Richfield donor center, and hours of operation will remain the same.

The new donor center comes at an important time, as MBC announced a blood emergency just last week. With this new donor center, MBC hopes to attract new donors who can replenish the blood supply.
