Whole Blood Donation

Whole blood is the type of donation most people think of when donating blood. During this donation, one unit (about one pint) of whole blood is collected and then separated into its three essential components: red cells, plasma, and platelets.

  • All blood types are needed, especially type O
  • Donate every 56 days (six times/year)
  • Approximate donation time: 1 hour
