New Year. New Traditions.

Start your new year’s weight loss resolution with an easy first pound. Be a blood donor and donate a pint. After all, a pint’s a pound, the world around! (Although most of the weight loss is water, it does take about a pound worth of kilocalories (3500kcal) to resynthesize lost red cells and plasma when you donate a pint of blood!)

Resolving to be a regular blood donor in 2013 means you’ll help save lives all year long. In fact, donating blood once every season—winter, spring, summer, and fall—takes only about one hour every three months. And your generous gifts will help ensure that Memorial Blood Centers—the primary blood supplier to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland—is fully prepared to help those in need.

Making blood donation a family tradition also offers a unique opportunity to bring together grandparents, parents, adult children, and students age 16 and older in service to others. So plan to donate now and help us celebrate National Blood Donor Month throughout the month of January. And then be sure to come back as often as you can—every 56 days you can make a whole blood donation. All blood types are always needed, especially Type O.

Making an appointment online is easy and convenient. Visit Donate Blood and click the Schedule Now button to schedule a donation at one of our Northland donor centers. You also can search by zip code for a community blood drive or schedule an appointment to donate in January at:
