• Professional staff development

  Client hospitals, clinics, and other partners benefit from a variety of staff development opportunities, including:

  • Consultation on blood usage management
  • On-site staff development and consultation with two of the nation’s leading experts in transfusion medicine: Elizabeth Perry, M.D., Associate Medical Director and Director of Physician Services, and Jed Gorlin, M.D., Medical Director and Vice President, Medical and Quality Affairs.
  • Bi-annual technical advisory conferences (TAMs), available AABB audio conferences and American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) teleconferences, free of charge, help keep hospital staff up-to-date on the latest industry developments

  • In-service Training of hospital staff in both the theory and science of lab testing and screening, including single and multiple antibody identification, patient phenotyping, donor unit antigen typing, and panagglutinating antibodies
  • Annual Workshop offering hospital staff a chance to engage with Reference Lab technologists in exploring highly-informative cases that highlight a challenging problem, a finding that advances our knowledge of the field, or a recently-proven testing procedure
  • Clinical training support for those pursuing a specialty in blood banking certification
  • Behind-the-scenes tours of donor centers and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities offer hospital staff, community groups, high school students, and others an opportunity to see the future of blood bank testing and research in action

• Community and outreach

  In addition to serving the professional development needs of the blood banking industry and the transfusion medicine community, knowledgeable experts and educators reach out to business and civic groups, other hospitals, and health-related and service organizations to present at meetings, luncheons, or workshops on a variety of topics.

  For example, Memorial Blood Centers’ Leadership Breakfast meetings bring together community and business leaders to increase awareness of the importance of blood donation and encourage civic participation in sponsoring community blood drives.
