Rock Your School for Life Student Essay Scholarship

Essay Topic
Engage students at your school to discover what it takes to recruit new blood donors and help them build a life-long commitment to saving lives. Conduct interviews with 10-15 fellow students (16 yrs. + who currently do not donate blood), using the Student Survey Questions detailed in the PDF below. Document all student responses. In a written essay, analyze the reasons given for not donating and recommend strategies to overcome those objections. Student Survey Questions (PDF, 33kb)

Participation Guidelines:

  • Only graduating seniors attending schools hosting blood drives with Memorial Blood Centers (MBC) are eligible.
  • Applicants must be planning to attend a post-secondary educational institution (military schools excluded).
  • Essays must be developed and written by submitting student only—no faculty or parental writing assistance is permitted.
  • All entries will be judged anonymously by an independent panel of experts at MBC.
  • Essay submissions must be 1,000-1,500 words in length, with documented survey responses included as an addendum.
  • Entries are subject to future use by MBC. A signed and scanned Release of Likeness Form must be submitted below.
